The Playground joins NU-World Contemporary Danse Theatre to launch their sixth season with TRANSITIONS, an evening of four works that celebrate the various evolutions of life.
Through dance and dance theatre, NU-World’s work addresses the resilience of the human spirit through the stories that come from the experiences and intersectionality of Black, Brown, and Queer identities in America.
Concerts are Friday, August 5th and Saturday, August 6th at 7:30pm at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre.
TRANSITIONS will feature:
A restaging of the meditative solo "Ms. Ruby's Wish," Christopher Page-Sanders' choreographic dedication to his late grandmother, Ruby Lee Cotton;
The premiere of NU-World artist Martez Mckinzy's "C.A.N.C.E.R." which centers Mckinzy's eleven-year journey as a cancer survivor;
The world premiere of Bashir-Muhammad and Christopher Page-Sanders' collaborative work, "The Journey of Discovery" which celebrates the path towards living in your authenticity and finding joy within life's changes; and
The remounting of Bashir Muhammad's work, "The Coming Together" which premiered at the Playground’s CoCoSho concert in April 2022 and is set to Frederic Rzewski’s work “Coming Together”.
Tickets for TRANSITIONS are $25.00 and can be purchased online here.
