commission new music

Building relationships with those writing music, both locally and abroad, is an important part of our mission. We hope to commission numerous new works written specifically for us as an ensemble. Our commissioning program, born by a gift from an anonymous donor, has us excited about the future. We hope to expand this important program and are looking for patrons who would like to be involved in the process of funding and creating new music.

Current successes include:
 
  • An Anonymous Commission
    for a new piece by composer Leanna Kirchoff for piano, cello and soprano
    (to be premiered in 2009)
  • The Playground CoCoCo Commission
    awarding $500 each year to a Colorado Composer for a new composition
    (to be premiered in the following season)
  • The Playground Anne Culver Lamont Student Composition Prize
    awarding $250 each year to a Lamont student chosen from our Lamont Student Composers Concert Series

Although individuals wishing to commission an entire piece of new music are appreciated, we also are interested in forming commissioning clubs. Individuals in these small groups would make modest contributions and the sum of these donations would subsidize a new creation. If you think this is you please contact us.

The Playground is always looking for interested parties to join the Board of Directors or volunteer. People with expertise in the following areas are especially welcome: marketing and promotion; public relations; legal counsel; development and fundraising. Contact us for more information.
